"To understand if we have really made a step we will have to wait until tomorrow when we are with the other guys on track" - Valentino Rossi
Following a positive private test at Mugello, Valentino Rossi has confirmed that will try a new swing-arm and electronics on his Ducati during this weekend's Catalan Grand Prix.
Rossi took his best ever Ducati finish with second place in the wet Le Mans race, but is yet to finish higher than seventh in the dry this year.
“We were in Mugello last week and we were lucky with the weather. We could try some new stuff to try to improve our speed and performance in the dry. It was important and interesting,” said Rossi.
“We tried something good like a different swing-arm [presumably the aluminium design] and some improvements in the electronics system in acceleration.
“To understand if we have really made a step we will have to wait until tomorrow when we are with the other guys on track.”
Like most riders Rossi, who finished fifth in last year's Catalan race, is a fan of the Barcelona event.
“It's one of my three favourite tracks of the season,” declared the seen time MotoGP champion. “I love to race here and I love the atmosphere with the fans. Usually the weather is ok, but especially the track layout is fantastic.”
Rossi and team-mate Nicky Hayden will put further miles on the latest GP12 developments during official testing on Monday (Catalunya) and Wednesday (Aragon).
The full upgrade package, potentially including a revised engine, is not expected to be used until Laguna Seca in late July.
